This article can assist in learning to use the Cannon MF Toolbox 4.9 that works with several of the ImageClass series of multi-function printers from Cannon.
Once it is open you should have a series of buttons on the screen. These represent preset settings in the toolbox software.
You should already have one labeled "PDF" click on it.
Source should be left on "Auto Mode".
If a duplexer is installed you may change it to scan 2-sided otherwise it is grayed out.
Adjust the paper size setting to reflect the size of the paper you are scanning in.
The next settings are for quality control, and are something you have to choose is best for you. Use the following as a guide line to pick the setting that will work best for you.
For Scan mode:
If you are scanning in a document that consists mostly of typed black text choose Black and White.
If you are scanning in a document that has color pictures choose color.
If you are scanning in something where highest quality is needed, choose color.
For Image quality:
If you need to be able to print the document again at normal print quality choose 300 dpi
If you just need to email the document for someone to reference 200 dpi will provide a decent print quality and decent file size for email.
If you want to scan in pictures or other detailed graphics go for the highest setting.
After adjusting those settings you must decide where you want to put the scanned in document.
File name is what you want to call the file.
The save as type is to allow you combine multiple pages into one file, or to break them up into individual files. For multipage documents it is best to choose PDF (Multiple Pages), otherwise choose PDF.
"Save Scanned Image to" is the location the files will be placed on your computer. This normally defaults to your "My Pictures" folder, but will also remember the last folder that you used. Always check this setting to make sure it is saving to where you want the files at.
"Save Pictures to a Subfolder with Current Date" is intended for those who might scan the same type of documents everyday but want to keep track of when they did them.
There are additional settings for External program useage these should only be changed if an automated program will be used (usually),
After making all of your setting adjustments you can go ahead and press the "Start" button to begin scanning in your documents.
