HP Photosmart gives an "Ink System Error"

Problem Description:

Your HP printer will give you an "Ink System Error". Turning the printer on and off will not make the message go away, and reseating the cartriges does not work either.

Cause of the Problem:

While we are not sure exactly what causes this message it does seem to be that some bad data is either sent to, or stored within the printer's memory causing it to think something has failed within the Ink management system.

If turning the printer on and off does not resolve the issue try performing a master reset on the printer. This will erase any settings on the printer itself.

To reset a C6180 do the following:

  1. Unplug the power from the printer
  2. Hold down the OK and Cancel buttons
  3. While still holding the OK and Cancel buttons reconnect the power to the printer
  4. Continue to hold the OK and Cancel buttons until the printer is fully powered on
