Windows updates download but do not install. This occurs through the automatic update utility and through the Windows update website.
Most of the time this is caused by the wups2.dll no longer being registered in the windows registry.
Open a command window by going to Start->Run and typing in cmd . Press enter or ok to run the command.
Type in each command on a seperate line and press enter :
Net stop wuauserv
Net start wuauserv
You should be able to get your automatic updates installed by going to windows update or the automatic update utility.
If the above does not work see Microsoft KB article #943144 for the latest Windows update client.
