Unable to locate the Outlook express address book

Problem Description:

You are unable to locate the Windows or Outlook Express address book. In some cases performing a search for *.wab on the system may also not return a result.

Cause of the Problem:

The Windows addressbook file is a database, and microsoft deliberately placed it within a hidden folder to prevent end users from accidently changing, or corrupting it.

By default the outlook express / Windows address book is stored on your C: drive under your documents and settings folder.

C:\Documents and Settings\USERPROFILE\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

Where USERPROFILE is the user account that you are looking under.

You may still be unable to browse to these files as by default Windows will hide system and hidden files.

To change this behavior:

Once these settings are changed you should be able to browse to the Outlook express / Windows Address book directory with no problem.
